Conservation Education
If you don’t understand it, you likely won’t be interested in protecting it. That is why conservation education is critical in Ontario. It is a sad truth that Ontario school boards are canceling outdoor education trips and reducing or eliminating conservation education in the school curriculum. This can only encourage a lack of interest in our natural resources.
To help combat this growing trend, the Ontario Wildlife Foundation is proud to be a supporter of the reintroduction of the Atlantic Salmon. By sponsoring special aquariums with refrigeration units, we encourage school classes to learn how to raise these fish from eggs. The hatched salmon become their fish and the stream that the class releases the fish into becomes their stream. Getting our youth to reconnect with our natural resources is essential to maintaining healthy habitat for our fish and wildlife well into the 21st century.
