Raptor Rehabilitation Enclosure – Flight Conditioning & Acclimatization

The National Wildlife Centre (NWC) regularly receives injured raptors that require specialized care and rehabilitation. These birds need a dedicated space to safely acclimatize to outdoor conditions, rebuild stamina, and adjust to weather exposure before release. Currently, NWC does not have a suitably sized enclosure to meet this need, limiting the success of raptor rehabilitation. This new enclosure will address that gap, providing critical infrastructure to support the health and recovery of:

  • Red-tailed Hawks (RTHA)
  • Sharp-shinned Hawks (SSHA)
  • Eastern Loggerhead Shrikes (ELSH)
  • Northern Harriers (NOHA)
  • Northern Goshawks (NOGO)

Project Benefits

This enclosure will allow raptors to strengthen their muscles, build endurance, and adjust to environmental factors like wind and temperature changes, preparing them for successful release. It will enhance the quality of care we provide, reduce rehabilitation time, and improve survival outcomes. Additionally, the enclosure will enable NWC to care for one bird at a time to minimize stress and risk, promoting individualized recovery. This contributes directly to biodiversity preservation and community education about local wildlife conservation.
